How to create a QR code
- Choose what the QR code should do: open a link, show text, join a Wi-Fi network and so on.
- Fill in the details. The preview updates as you type.
- If you need to, adjust the colors, margin and error correction.
- Download it as PNG or SVG, or copy the image. Scan it with your phone before printing it.
Static QR codes: no expiry, no tracking
The QR codes you create here are static: the content itself (your link, text or network details) is stored in the pattern. They don’t depend on any server, never expire and keep working for as long as the code can be read.
The trade-off is that a static code can’t be edited after it’s printed. To change where it points, create a new one. Editable “dynamic” QR codes send every scan through a third-party server, which is exactly what we avoid.
Tips for a QR code that always scans
- Keep strong contrast: a dark code on a light background works with every scanner.
- Leave the margin (quiet zone) around the code. Phones use it to find the code.
- Print it at least 2 × 2 cm (about 1 inch), and larger if the content is long or people will scan it from a distance.
- Use a higher error correction level if the code may get scratched, dirty or partly covered.
- Shorter content makes a simpler code that is easier to read. Test it before printing.
PNG or SVG?
PNG is an image that works everywhere: websites, documents, presentations and messaging apps. Pick a larger export size for print. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, ideal for print shops and design tools.
Your data stays on your device
The QR code is created by your browser. What you type, Wi-Fi passwords included, is never sent to our servers or anyone else, and nothing is stored.
Frequently asked questions
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. There’s no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many codes you create. You can use them for personal or commercial projects.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. They are static codes, so the content is inside the code itself. They will work as long as the code is readable.
Can I edit a QR code after creating it?
Not once it’s printed or shared, because the content is part of the pattern. Create a new code with the updated information.
How does a Wi-Fi QR code work?
Scanning it with the camera of a modern Android phone or iPhone offers to join the network, without typing the password. Choose the same security type as your router, usually WPA/WPA2/WPA3.
What does error correction mean?
It lets a QR code still be read when part of it is damaged: about 7% (Low), 15% (Medium), 25% (Quartile) or 30% (High). Higher levels make the code denser, so Medium is a good default.
Why doesn’t my QR code scan?
The usual causes are low contrast, light colors on a dark background, a missing margin, a code printed too small or too much content. Try the default colors, keep the margin at 4 and print it larger.
